The Sunday Scaries
It’s Sunday night and those Sunday scaries are sinking in hard. You think to yourself of ALL the things that need to get done this upcoming week. All the things you need to magically become. This is supposed to be the week you become a morning person. You’ll wake up early, get your workout in, have a healthy breakfast and even do some meditation. But then, it’s Monday morning and the alarm is going off at 6 A.M. You’ve hit snooze 7 times and you’re barely able to make it to work on time and all of those dreams and ambitions have gone out the door. You think to yourself, I guess I’m just not meant to be a morning person.
Wrong! There are a few simple tasks that I’ve been implementing that have helped me stick to my morning routine. Yes, not every day is easy (to be honest, most aren’t) but once I’m finally out of my comfy bed on time I’m already feeling a bit accomplished for the day. So, here are the 3 steps to becoming a morning person that worked for me.
3 Steps to Rise and Grind
- Plan your week out in your calendar. Whether you’re using a physical planner or just a google calendar schedule down all you need to do to make your morning successful. I literally put in my calendar that I’m waking up at 7am. Taking the dog out for a walk at 7:15am. Breakfast and reading personal development at 7:30am. Focusing on my blog writing at 8:30am – 9:30am. Then take a break for either grocery store or just to enjoy some of my book, then we’re back at it. It may seem overkill to put in your calendar what time you’re waking up and when you’re doing other small tasks but this allows your brain to already see it and makes it more achievable / easier to accomplish.
- Put your phone / alarm clock on the other side of the room. I mean how easy is it to roll over and hit the snooze button and sometimes not even realize that you’ve pressed it!? Too easy. So with plugging in your phone / alarm on the other side of the room, now when that goes off you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. You might as well just stay up and continue your journey out of the bedroom.
- Have warm clothes nearby. If there’s one reason why I want to stay in bed it’s because it’s cozy and warm! The alarm goes off and you’re thinking, oh no I can’t get up now it’s too cold outside of my comfy bed. So, now I’ve started to put either my robe or a comfy hoodie and slippers right next to my bed. This way I still feel cozy and warm when I’m not under the sheets.
