You’ve finally decided that maybe every night shouldn’t consist of binge watching Netflix and finishing another bag of potato chips. Something needs to change! But, how do you change it? Where do you even begin? Here are 5 Steps to better your health that are simple and easy to start today!
- Increase your Water
- The most important step and you will reap some amazing health benefits. Focusing on drinking more water also helps to remove those sugary drinks that are packed with unnecessary ingredients and calories.
- According to Healthline, increasing your water intake will increase your energy levels and brain function. A dehydrated body is more likely to forget things and feel more anxious. Want more information? Read more on water here {Health Benefits of Water}
- Eat Fewer Processed foods
- My tip for helping with this is to stay away from the middle aisels in the grocery store.
- First, you won’t be tempted to buy the latest salty food trend that marketers are trying to entice you with.
- Second, you’ll be browsing the perimeter of the store which has all the healthy vegetables and fruits you can try.
- Increase Your Vegetables
- If you love to make smoothies in the morning add in a handful of spinach. I swear you won’t even be able to taste it!
- Love to make pasta? Try and swap out your noodles for Zoodles (spiralized zucchini). They are my favorite!
- Enjoy Regular Physical Activity
- First, try starting with just a 15 minute walk around the neighborhood in the evenings after your dinner instead of going straight to the couch.
- Second, add in some morning yoga when you first wake up to stretch your body.
- This doesn’t always have to be going to the gym and putting in hours doing something you hate.
- Turn on your favorite song and dance around the house! If you have kids I’m sure they’ll love to get in on the action too.
- Practice Cooking
- Going out to eat can seem super convenient at times, however it can wreak havoc on your goals if you’re going out too often. First, the portions are enough to feed two people. Second, you’re not sure what ingredients they’ve used. There could be flour, butter and vegetable oil for cooking with more salt than you need. And lastly, let’s be real, fried tastes so much better than the grilled option they hide in the bottom of the menu!
- Make it a fun date night with your spouse or friends and get creative in the kitchen. Allow yourself to laugh at some of the mishaps that are bound to happen. In no time friends and family will be calling you ‘Chef’
