Enjoy Vacation and Crush Your Wellness Goals

Going on vacation is something we all love to do. It’s great to escape a bit from the everyday hustle and bustle and just relax. While for some this may mean they’re ok with just being a beach bum for a week, I know there are others who are still trying to stick to some sort of wellness goal while on their vacation. Good news is you can have it both! A great vacation and crush your wellness goals.

How to enjoy vacation and still crush your wellness goals

While endless amounts of pasta, pizza and fancy cocktails are great, a little bit of balance never hurt anyone either! Here are my tips on how you can enjoy vacation and crush your wellness goals.

  • Give Yourself Grace
    • You’re on vacation after all! You’ve done a lot of hard work before you got here so now is a time for your body to relax. Take in the beauty of where you’re traveling and soak in all this new place has to offer. Order the big bowl of Italian Pasta and embrace the new culture you’re in. 
  • Make Time for Yourself
    • Don’t try and pack in too many adventures to the point where you wear yourself out. If you’re a morning person (like me) try and make it a point for at least a couple of the mornings to wake up early, go catch the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee or tea and take time to reflect on the things you’re grateful for.
  • Drink Water
    • You’re more likely to be indulging in foods that you’re not normally eating and drinking. These items likely have more salt and carbs. To keep your body working properly and not getting puffy from excess sodium, be sure to keep drinking your water throughout the day. Pack your favorite water bottle with you and keep it by your side. With the fancy cocktails on the beach be sure to have a glass of water in between. 
  • Find Adventures that Involve being Active
    • You may not have a gym at your fingertips where you’re staying. Don’t let that derail you or get into the mindset of “well if I don’t work out for a week all of my progress will be gone and I’ll have to start all over.” Instead, find adventures you can do that are active. Many places you can go hiking, walk along the beach, go swimming, go for a run throughout the town . You’ll be surprised at how many steps you’re taking each day seeing new sights and adventures. PLUS walking is one of the best exercises you can do.
  • Eat Fresh Produce
    • Instead of getting mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, try a fresh citrus salad that’s bursting with beautiful colors and shows off the fresh produce. It’s great to indulge in new places, but mix it up with a night of balance to include fresh items. Staying in an airbnb? Even better, prepare a healthy breakfast to start your day. 

At the end of the day, you’re on vacation and you should still have fun! Your fitness and nutrition aren’t always going to be perfect and that’s OK. Remember to not get too wrapped up in trying to maintain your routine from home to where you miss out on what your vacation has to offer. Sprinkle times of wellness throughout the week but know you’ll be fine laying on the beach sipping pina coladas. I hope these tips will help you enjoy your vacation and crush your wellness goals!
