Relaxed too much or indulged too much ? No worries! I’ll share with you my 5 tips on how you can get back on track after vacation. In just a few days you’ll be feeling back to your normal self.
Between Anthony’s parents visiting for two weeks, then my mom and aunt visiting for a few days AND a week trip to Italy it’s been vacation overload. So I thought this would be the perfect time to share how I’ve been getting back on track.
Vacation is a time to relax and not be so structured in our everyday life. Does it mean to just throw all our cares out the window and indulge in every single thing we stumble upon? No, not exactly, but it is a time to give yourself a break and enjoy your time away.
While I’m a creature of habit, on vacation I know it’s not always going to be that way. Not everyday I’m going to get a workout in. Some days I may not see any green vegetables on my plate. And alcohol beverages may take the lead over water.
I’ve learned to not stress about this. Afterall, I’m not going on vacation for a year but just a week or two. Within that short amount of time it’s not going to totally ruin my wellness goals and a little break from the everyday structure is good for the soul. Regardless, coming back from vacation always has me feeling a little bloated, gaining a couple of pounds and just tired from all the travel.
5 Tips on How to Get Back on Track After Vacation
- Get Back to your Normal Workout Routine
- Don’t try to go all out and workout for 2 hours a day to try and burn off the extra calories you consumed while on vacation. Just getting back into your normal workout routine will do wonders for your body. A yoga session one day to stretch and lengthen your body. Cardio the next day to bring on a sweat and a strength building session another to get your muscles fired up again is just perfect.
- Drink Plenty of Water
- You may notice you’re feeling a bit puffy coming home. This can be due to the fact that you’re dehydrated. This can be from flying, more salty foods, increase in alcohol and less water at your fingertips.
- Eat Balanced Meals
- Starving yourself is one of the worst ways to try and make up for indulging on vacation. This is just going to lead to a binge session down the road which will have you feeling even worse! Instead, go to the grocery store and stock up on leafy greens, healthy starches like sweet potatoes, brown rice and quinoa and be sure to incorporate lean protein into your meals as well.
- Take a Walk
- Walking is a great form of exercise. While on vacation you may not have gotten a lot of movement into your days so getting in some light exercise is great. This also will help ease any anxious feelings you may be having about how you’re feeling getting back from vacation. Enjoy a walk on your lunch break or when you get home from work to wind now.
- Give Yourself Grace.
- You were on vacation and deserved to indulge and relax after all! No point in sitting there wishing you wouldn’t have eaten pasta, cheese and bread at every meal! It’s not like you do that everyday. Think of all the fun times you had on vacation and the memories that were made.
