Starting a workout routine is hard! So congratulations on taking the first step and deciding you want to put one into place! Personally, I think working out from home is the way to go. I love the convenience of it plus I never feel I have to compete with anyone besides myself. Let’s be real, it’s also great if you don’t have a cute (clean) new outfit, there’s no one there to judge you! Ok, so now onto how to start your at home workout routine. There are only a few pieces of equipment needed to get you going in no time!
Equipment Needed
- Weights
- Adding strength training into your at home workout routine is super important
- I would suggest incorporating 3 days of strength training
- Get a good variety to get started with 1lb, 3lb, 5lb, 8lb, 10lb, 12lb
- You may not think 1 -3 lb weights will do anything but if you’re looking to follow a Barre program, TRUST ME, 1lb weights will be plenty.

- Yoga Mat
- Obviously great for yoga days, which I recommend doing on the weekends. If you can do it Saturday and Sunday great. It’s a great way to recharge your body and get it ready for the week ahead.
- Also, the mat is great for making sure you don’t slip on your floor. If you have a wood floor use it for extra support for moves that make you head to the ground to complete.
- My recommendation: Yoga Mat
- Resistance Bands
- These bring so much burn!
- Perfect to work your muscles in a different ways with minimal movements.
- My recommendation: Resistance Bands
- A Program to Follow
- Online
- YouTube
- BeachBody
- Tone it Up
- Peloton App
- Pinterest
- A great way to search for some workouts that you can do.
- Just make sure you’re rotating through your muscle groups / types of workouts you’re doing during the week.
- You don’t want to constantly just be doing core or booty workouts.
- Online
